Sports injuries are common, especially in contact sports where bruises and strains are part and parcel of everyday life. The nature of sports is so intense and frantic today that injuries are almost inevitable; to address this, osteopathy has emerged as an important component of the condition process; for example, the number of sport clubs employing an osteopath has increased significantly in recent years. Professional sports players depend on osteopathic treatment as a means of keeping their bodies in optimum physical shape as well as a way to heal or ease existing conditions. Common sports injuries include strains and sprains, which affect the tendons, muscles and ligaments as well as swelling, bruising and areas of muscular pain or aching.
Osteopathy identifies problems relating to the fascia, nervous system, muscles, bones and tissues; this broad approach helps to identify wider issues which can contribute to localized pain or specific complaints.
In sport, osteopathy is often used as a preventive measure in order to keep the body in optimum condition and to reduce the risk of injury in the future. This is achieved by keeping the nervous system primed, joints lubricated, and the muscles loose and warm prior to a game or match and allowing the muscles to relax and cool at the end; fascial release is often used to ensure the muscles are relaxed.
Repetitive strain injuries such as tennis elbow are caused by prolonged strain on a particular muscle or tendon; these injuries are not exclusive to tennis and can also be experienced in other racquet sports as well as non-sporting activities including gardening, typing and playing a musical instrument. Treatment for repetitive strain injuries often involve specialized stretching and strengthening routines; these can often be carried out at home.
Osteopathy can stretch and condition the fascia/muscles and related nervous system interaction and ease the pain; a routine of stretches to carry out at home can also be recommended.

Services include:
- Fascial Stretch Therapy (Osteopathic Osteoarticular Mobilizations and Frederick Stretch Therapy/FST)
- Biomechanical Patterning Analysis (including Neurokinetic Therapy/NKT)
- Exercise and conditioning program
- Performance Coaching

I am excited to begin my journey in the health and wellness industry with Neil and the Complete Function team. I am excited beyond measure to play a hands-on role in helping recover, maintain, and balance the health and stability within people’s everyday lives. As an aspiring Practitioner of Manual Osteopath, I took the direction of health, wellness, and recovery into post-secondary, completing my Kinesiology Diploma at Red Deer Polytechnic from 2022-2024. Throughout my post-secondary education and my new chapter at the National Manual Osteopathic College (NMOC), I have gained an appreciation for the minor and major struggles that people deal with when it comes to feeling their best in their bodies. My goal is to approach each and every session with the mission of finding our root problem and determining a path to a solution that fits the specific needs of each and every client. With sports, and sports injuries playing an important role in my life, I strive to make sure that the individual’s problems at hand are dealt with just as thoroughly as the rest.
